Summers at Camp Latona offer the ultimate camp experience, providing campers with a fun filled week of challenge and adventure, new friendships and a life time of memories.
Programs at Camp Latona are special designed with the age and interest of campers in mind. Campers are grouped by age and by gender into groups of 8-10 with two leaders they will experience living in a small community while enjoying a full range of outdoor activities.
For many of our younger campers this can be their first trip away from home. Our staff is specially trained to work with the younger campers. Campers still get to participate in all the great activities, games, campfires and songs but they are geared toward s their sense of humour and fun. Campfire and lights out are a bit earlier for this group.![]()
For those in the older age group the ability to develop one self is taken up a notch. The campers are encouraged and offered opportunities to make new friends and to challenge themselves whether it is a new game, learn a new skill, take a role in a skit or the experience a new hike. Each cabin is grouped by age allowing campers to meet many new friends with similar interests and experiences.
Leaders are trained to guide each cabin group through adventure activities that may include: Archery, canoeing, kayaking, crafts, hiking, rock climbing, high ropes course, low ropes course and our Zip line. Campers will enjoy the imagination themed and special events during meals and offered each session.
Campers get the opportunity to strike out from camp for an a overnight adventure. By land or sea cabin groups will head out to make a camp in a true wilderness setting. Shelters are constructed, food prepared and an unforgettable chance to experience a true connection with nature and each other unfolds. Outtrips are a challenging and incredible rewarding part of the camp experience for all ages. Whether it is a 10 minute hike to one of our fields on the property for the younger campers or a 4 hour canoe trip around part of the island for the oldest, each group learns the value of leadership, cooperation and teamwork while being outdoors and in touch with nature.

Camp Latona is helping and encourages youth to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. It is one the best young Canadian Challenges still around.
Duke of Edinburgh Award program was developed to encourage all youth ages 14-25 to be active, participate in new activities and pursue their current interest in four different areas.
No two Awards are exactly the same! You choose your activities and build your Award...your way. Do things that are of interest to you, have fun along the way and receive recognition upon completion.
There are three Awards to achieve: Bronze, Silver and Gold. At Camp Latona we are going to focus on Bronze and Silver award for 2012. Most people start off with the Bronze and work their way up.
You benefit through your own effort and you will learn and grow from the experience.
Upon completion you will be recognized for your achievements with a Bronze or Silver Award. To achieve the award you must set and achieve goals in the following 4 areas:
• Community Service:
Be a local hero by providing volunteer service to others and your community.
• Personal Skill Development:
Do something different; develop a personal interest, social or practical skill.
• Physical Recreation:
Gain a sense of achievement and good health through physical activity. Virtually any sport, dance or fitness activity can count.
• Adventurous Journey:
Go on an expedition and find yourself! Develop self reliance by planning, training and completing a journey of discovery.
Camp Latona staff are here to help you plan and guide you through the Duke of Edinburgh award process. You will gain experience in the 4 goals listed above and with the assistance of Camp Latona staff you will also develop:
• Self-confidence
• Teamwork skills
• Leadership Skills
• Communication
• Planning
• Long lasting friendship
• Recognition
• Great resume builder
